Australian female artist, Nellie Govett (Helena Nellie Govett) was born in 1882, Melbourne Victoria.

She was the mother to renouned Australian artist James William Govett (1910-2008).

Nellie studied under the tuteledge of Max Meldrum (1931-1950) and was twice an Archibald finalist, (1929 and 1938). In the 1950’s Nellie and her son James held several joint exhibitions of their work and in 1993 a retrospective of their work was held at Soroptomist House, South Yarra, Victoria.

Signed lower right N Govett. Oil on composite board in its 0riginal wooden frame.

The painting has been professionally cleaned & restored, and is ready to hang.
