A finely painted portrait of a bearded gentleman, by the listed French Parisian artist Jules Richomme (1818-1903).
Jules Richomme was a portrait, landscape and history painter born and educated in Paris; he exhibited at the Paris Salons from 1833 onwards where he won a 3rd class medal at the 1840 Salon & second class medal at the 1842 Salon.
In 1867 he was was honoured by the French government with a Chevalier de la Legion (the highest French order of merit for military or civilian recognition), going on to be selected by the government to paint and decorate the Theatre d’Italienne in Cherbourg.
Richomme lived & worked in Paris, where he died in 1903.
