Boy with Bird by the Australian post war contemporary artist William Drew (1928-1983).
Drew was born in Melbourne and studied at the Melbourne Institute of Technology before embarking on extensive travels throughout Europe and the Americas. His paintings have a distinctive style and subject, he often painted figures and portraits of people with their hands clasped together or holding an object, in the case of this portrait, a boy gently holding a bird. Tragically, William Drew died in a car crash in France on the way to his second residence in 1983. He held several exhibitions and his work is represented in the Heide Museum of Contemporary Art, Victoria.
