A Vintage Australian landscape of tall Gum Trees fringing a countryside track, by the listed British/Australian artist James Holmyard (1929-2009).
Born in Bristol, England in 1929, he studied art at the Royal West of England Academy before relocating to Australia in 1964. Settling in Brisbane, Holmyard commenced his career in oils and predominantly painted landscapes. He exhibited in Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne.
This painting has a wonderful earthy palette, with the trees and track having a lightly impasto style, giving this striking scene a textured quality.
Oil on masonite board, signed lower right. The painting sits in its original wooden frame with linen surround which has been professionally white washed.
